HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Job Code: HR-0501

Roles and Responsibilities

CovX seeks ambitious, creative, dedicated candidates for the Head of Human Resources (HR).  As Head of HR, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to our organization while performing hands-on management for all aspects of HR. CovX has plans to grow from a 50-person organization to a 75-person organization over the next few years.  As such, a successful candidate must possess the required tools, passion and motivation as our organization expands.  Essential skills/qualities include:

  • managing the recruitment and job development process,
  • balancing the role of employee advocate with responsibilities of advising senior management,
  • overseeing the day-to-day administration of the HR function
  • developing and managing a performance management system integral to the CovX culture and learning environment
  • developing and implementing leadership and employee development training programs,
  • developing and honing the cultural and value system at the Company, and
  • possessing the forward-thinking vision of an innovative leader in HR initiatives.

At CovX, we believe our employees are key to our business.  Therefore, the HR function is pivotal to our current and future success.  We seek a person to lead our HR effort as we move forward into the future stages of our company.  This person must possess the attributes of a leader, including motivator, manager, interpreter, advisor, and trainer.

The successful candidate will partner effectively with CovX’s Leadership Team to ensure that HR’s focus is consistent with the Company’s objectives:  to be an innovative, industry leader.  As such, this individual will require and ensure that all company HR programs and practices are “cutting edge” and consistent with the company’s goals, mission and vision. He/she will provide training, coaching and support to management and staff employees on the full spectrum of issues.

The Head of HR must be "hands-on" in effecting the operation of the HR function at the company and must posses the attributes, experience and persona to allow him/her to quickly gain credibility and earn the trust of both senior management and the employee population as a whole.  This function will oversee and administer recruitment, job development, performance management, benefits administration, and other related functions.

The HR function requires balance in many areas.  Two such areas are employee advocacy vs. employee management as well as process vs. goal orientation.  While working with senior management, the candidate must also function as an employee advocate.  To some, there may be an apparent dichotomy between these two roles; however, the successful candidate will recognize the consistencies of these two roles and develop positions that support both purposes.  Likewise, he/she must balance the desire to follow processes and procedures with the need to accomplish company goals.  The successful candidate will fully understand the company’s objectives and then seek to accomplish them while maintaining appropriate protocols.

Qualifications

Candidates should be senior human resource generalists with at least 10 to 15 years of relevant experience; ideally in situations with increasing responsibilities.  The successful candidate values personal and organizational development and training and has the skill, experience and motivation to be a highly effective leader in these areas.  He/she should have the self-confidence and desire to effectively work with a highly educated, motivated and talented workforce. Experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry is required. The successful candidate will generate excitement and enthusiasm comparable with the passion and drive demonstrated by our scientists.  The Head of HR must understand the importance of and value a positive work environment.

Specific required skill sets include:

  • Being a self starter with a focus on details and execution.
  • Having business vision, judgment, and leadership.
